An acute arterial blockage occurs when an artery that normally allows the flow of blood is suddenly occluded or blocked and blood no longer is able to get through the artery. An acute blockage of an artery is a medical emergency that requires the training and skill set of a Vascular Surgeon.

There are several ways in which an acute blockage occurs including:

   – History of Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD)

   – Embolus or Thrombosis

   – Vascular Trauma

   – Dissection of the aorta

   – Infection in an artery or previous stent graft
