Luis Alfonso Muñoz MD will no longer be seeing patients and is an emeritus Vascular Surgeon with Western Vascular Institute.
Dr. Muñoz is a general and vascular surgeon. He received his 5 years of general surgery in his native Country, Chile. He came to the USA in 1975 to complete his cardiovascular surgery fellowship training from The St. Josephs Arizona Heart Institute as a student of Dr. Edward B Diethrich as well as working with under the mentorship of Dr. Denton Cooley at Texas Heart Institute. Dr. Muñoz is both a member and fellow of the international surgery society. Dr. Muñoz has practiced general and vascular surgery in various phoenix hospitals including Arizona Heart Hospital as well as Banner Payson Hospital and is currently part of the Western Vascular Institute group of vascular surgeons. Dr. Muñoz resides in Payson, AZ where he has been the past chief of surgery of Payson hospital (now Banner Payson).
Dr. Muñoz has also served as the chairman of the Medical Education Committee of the Arizona Medical Association. Dr. Muñoz was the surveyor for the ACCME organization which is in charge of accrediting medical education programs in the USA and has also served as a member of the Arizona Medical Association executive committee. Besides being a well-known pillar of good in Payson and in the Arizona Surgical Community he enjoys playing and coaching soccer and has received his national soccer coaching certification from UCLA-Irvine. Dr. Muñoz for a time served as the head coach for the Varsity Soccer team at Payson High School.
In 2007 Dr. Muñoz founded a nonprofit medical clinic called the Christian Clinic in Payson where he continues to provide free surgical services. Dr. Muñoz enjoys family life with his beautiful wife Sue, his 6 children, and 17 grandchildren. His hobbies include: Sports, Bicycling, Music, Photography, Gardening, and Christian Fellowship.
